Two California Universities Believe AI Can Help Humanity

California universities have created new centers to study how AI can help humanity. USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering and its School of Social Work said Wednesday that they had joined forces to launch the Center on Artificial Intelligence for Social Solutions. UC Berkeley revealed their Center for Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence. The UC Berkeley center “will seek to understand how human values can be built into AI’s design, and create a mathematical framework that will help people build AI systems that are beneficial to individuals and society,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Stanford University released a report on the impact AI can have on urban life by 2030. The report covers different parts of life, including transportation, healthcare, and education. The authors of the report also discussed the importance of the government understanding AI, since rapidly-changing technologies will be pushing new policies forward. Scientists say that AI could transform society for the better.
