As of Thursday morning, Jeff Bezos’ net worth was $90.4 billion. But when the bell rang at the end of the trading day in New York on Wednesday, he had surpassed Bill Gates – who has held the title of richest person since May 2013 – after a growth in Amazon’s shares.
At the beginning of this year, Jeff Bezos was ranked as the fourth richest person in the world. He has not just surpassed Bill Gates, but Inditex SA founder Amancio Ortega and Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett, who are now the third and fourth richest men in the world with fortunes of $82.7 and $74.5 billion, respectively.
Jeff Bezos was raised by his mother and his step-father, who adopted him. In 1994, he quit his job in New York to found Amazon.com and sell books online.
