IPC’s market research regularly unearths interesting findings that may reveal golden opportunities for electronics manufacturers. Here are some of the latest discoveries of interest to North American PCB fabricators:
• Flexible circuit orders in North America are booming this year and the forecast for the next year is for double-digit sales growth. The North American flex market has grown over the past 3 years while the rigid PCB market has shrunk. Globally, the flex market is now estimated at over $10.2 billion. Yet, U.S. production accounts for only 3.4 percent of the world’s flexible circuits.
• High-density interconnect (HDI) is another market that grew in double digits in 2014 and is growing even faster this year. HDI/microvia boards make up about 22 percent of the North American rigid PCB market. Yet the U.S. produces only 2.4 percent of the world’s microvia boards, and just 7 percent of the rigid PCBs produced in the U.S. are microvia boards.
Electronics manufacturers can pinpoint good business opportunities as well as risks with the help of IPC’s market research reports. These findings come from two recent reports: the June 2015 edition of the monthly North American PCB Market Report and the forthcoming World PCB Production Report for the Year 2014. More information about these and other reports can be found online.
IPC members receive substantial discounts on the prices of reports, in most cases 50 percent. PCB fabricators that are IPC members can receive the monthly PCB market report free by participating in IPC’s North American PCB Statistical Program.
