Doug Brooks Interview at PCB West 2015

If you weren’t able to attend PCB West or stop by Sierra Circuits’ booth, we missed you! But don’t worry—you can reach out to us any time to discuss our products and services. And because we know keeping up with industry news, standards, and tips is a high priority, we’ve got a brand new video series you’ve got to check out.

We talked with vendors, product experts, software engineers, and industry leaders at PCB West. They were all kind enough to share information we know you will enjoy watching. Here is the eighth of our nine interviews!

Doug Brooks has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He has held positions in engineering, marketing, and general management with Hughes Aircraft, Texas Instruments and ELDEC. Brooks owned his own manufacturing company, and in 1992 he formed UltraCAD Design. Watch his interview below.

What have you been up to?
I have been working with Johannes Adam, who has developed software that can simulate trace temperatures on traces as a function of current. It’s called TRM (thermal risk management). Most impressively, we’ve been able to determine the temperature of a via. No one has been able to come up with this statistic in the past. We were able to show how much the via temperature changed as current changed.
