 What is Web Assembly?
With Sierra Circuits' new Web Assembly offering, customers can get Quick-turn PCB Assembly for small quantities (from 1 to 25 PCBs). Innovations in assembly technology and operations enable us to provide fantastic prices and fast delivery times needed for today's small R & D level prototype runs. There are no extra charges for Stencils, Programming or Setup. Furthermore, there are no minimum quantity restrictions--even a single PCB can be assembled cost-effectively!

How do I get my PCBs assembled from Sierra Circuits?
We provide both Turnkey and Consigned assembly services.

Consigned Assembly: You send us the PCBs and components and we'll assemble them for you. Our assembly prices are shown in the web assembly matrix.
Or you may want to send us some of the components or just the PCBs...any combination you choose-- we'll figure out what is remaining and price it all for you and assemble it.

To send us any components or kit, use this address:

Sierra Circuits Assembly Receiving
306 Potrero Ave.
Sunnyvale, CA 94085, USA
(Always include your Company name and Quote Number with your kit)

Turnkey Assembly: Free yourself from the hassle of sourcing components! With turnkey assembly, we will buy the components for you and deliver you the assembled PCBs.Our Turnkey Assembly Quote will include the Components and Assembly Labor.
(Of course, the PCBs themselves are not included in Turnkey Assembly quote. You can give us PCBs that you already have, OR have us separately quote your PCBs for you.)
Note that our Web Assembly pricing matrix shows the Assembly pricing only. It does not include components or PCBs. Those items are separate and you may choose to buy them from us or elsewhere.
Get PCBs made: if you want Sierra Circuits to build your PCBs, do check out our PCB prices online. For consigned assembly, you may place the order for PCB separately and then have us assemble it all. All this can be coordinated by our Assembly sales team.
Procure Components: if you want us to procure components, we have a wide network of vendors in our partner network. Not only will you save time, but you will also save money by utilizing our special relationships and buying power. Our premier partners are Digi-Key and Mouser.

What specs do I need to enter to get an instant Assembly Quote online?
To see our Assembly Pricing matrix, will have to tell us the following about your design:
  1. Number of standard SMT components (per board)
  2. Number of Through-Hole components (per board)
  3. Number of Fine Pitch Components (per board)
  4. Number of Line Items in BOM
  5. Number of Sides for assembly

Prices shown assume that Components will be supplied by customer (Consigned Assembly).
Turnkey Assembly Quotes are also available--we will have to review your BOM in detail for it.

What happens after an assembly order is placed?
Once your order is placed, we:
  1. Verify your design for pcb assembly feasibility and contact you immediately.
  2. Mail instructions to assist with packaging for consigned or partial turn-key orders.
  3. Locate and procure all necessary components for turn-key or partial turn-key orders. For all consigned parts, we require extra parts for assembly attrition:
    • Passive Devices: 10% or more extra
    • Active Devices: 5% or more extra
    • High Cost Devices: 1 or more extra per order
  4. Assemble all pcb orders using pick and place machines to ensure accuracy and produce clean boards.
  5. Conduct quality testing according to IPC-A-610 assembly standards.
  6. Inspect BGAs, Leadless Devices and QFNs etc. using X Ray inspection.
  7. Ship assembled printed circuit boards on-time.

What are most important things to know before I place a Web Assembly order?
  1. Our instant Web Assembly quotes are generally accurate, but you must consider them to be budgetary quotes. We reserve the right to RE-QUOTE your assembly if we find significant additional complexity based on the actual BOM, gerbers, drawings, and kit.
  2. How should components be sent to us (for consigned assembly)?
      1. a) All SMT parts that you consign to us must be on Tapes, Trays, or Tubes.
        b) Taped SMT parts must be on Reels. If not, then we need a minimum 6” extra leader above the length of tape for the required quantity. Otherwise extra charges may apply.
        c) Please adjust quantities for attrition during assembly. Guidelines for extra parts:
        • Passive Devices: 10% or more extra parts
        • Active Devices: 5% or more extra parts
        • High Cost Devices: 1 or more extra per order

  3. PCB Outline: Extra charges may apply if these guidelines are not followed.
      1. a) Your PCB outline must be RECTANGULAR in shape.
        b) If your PCB outline is NOT RECTANGULAR, then ARRAYED PCBs are required - and the ARRAY must be rectangular.

  4. Extra charges for Assembly Fixture ($300 minimum) may apply in following cases.
Also please note that if we have to make fixtures your turn-time will be increased by 2 days.
      1. a) The PCB or Array must have minimum 3" dimensions. If any dimension (X or Y) is less than 3" then we will have to make an Assembly Fixture.
        b) If your PCB Assembly needs SMT components closer than ¼” to any of the edges of PCB, then we will have to make an Assembly Fixture.

  5. Extra charges for Press Fit fixtures
      1. If your assembly has press fit connectors, we'll have to make a Press Fit fixture and extra charges ($750 minimum) will apply.

I understand I can either purchase components myself, and kit them and send to Sierra Circuits (Consigned), or have Sierra purchase components (Turnkey). Generally, which option is better for me as a customer?
We believe that when we buy the parts (turnkey option), overall we save customers time and money and provide them with peace of mind
  1. Because of our special relationships and buying power with distributors, we are ultimately able pass significant savings onto the customer.
  2. If we buy the parts, we can save the customer money by eliminating their kitting costs.
  3. When we purchase the components, we can save time by having the components go straight to our assembly division instead of first to the customer, then to us, then to assembly. This saves time and shipping charges, which in turn saves the customer a lot of money.
  4. We take full responsibility for purchasing the right parts per the customer BOM or AML (approved material list) therefore, the customer will always rest assured that the exact part they specified will be installed on their boards.

What is the Cancellation policy for any Assembly order?
  1. Once an order is placed it is immediately subject to cancellation charges.
  2. We will include any costs we've incurred up to the time of cancellation.
  3. We will return back to you any partial work, or remaining parts (shipping charges will apply).
  4. As soon as you find out that you have to cancel an order, do contact your Account Representative immediately by phone AND email.
